Topic:  Harnessing the Power of the Veteran Workforce in Healthcare (submitted for 1 credit hour) 

Overview: We will share information about the value of recruitment of veterans for patient care positions and support areas such as supply chain.   Facilitating veteran hiring reduces healthcare staffing shortages and supports quality patient care.  Veterans are a valuable resource in the workforce coming to a company with previous experience and teamwork skills.   You will understand how the veteran jobs programs help employers develop and implement long-term strategies and nationally recognized best practices in recruiting, hiring, and retaining Veterans. We will have a general overview about different veteran jobs programs as well as educational opportunities which helps those in the medical field in the military transition to roles in healthcare in the private sector.  

Learning Objectives:

• Learn how facilitating veteran hiring reduces healthcare staffing shortages and supports quality patient care.
• Understand how job skills in the military can translate into jobs outside of the military, especially in health care through the Transition and Employment Programs such as the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Program and the Hire Vets Now Networking and Skillbridge partnership with the Virginia Chamber
• Understand how the veteran jobs programs help employers develop and implement long-term strategies and nationally recognized best practices in recruiting, hiring, and retaining Veterans.
• Learn about the educational program from the State of Virginia focusing on veteran talent acquisition specifically for healthcare. Qualified applicants apply their extensive clinical skills and experience from the military under supervision while they obtain required civilian clinical credentials/education.

Speaker Bio:

Phil Trezza serves as the Director of Transition and Employment for the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. Phil has held various roles within the agency, from helping to stand up the Military Medics and Corpsmen Program to supporting multiple programs with research, analysis and developing strategic vision. He is deeply passionate about supporting, mentoring and advocating for military Veterans, Service Members and their families.

Phil served in the United States Army and Army Reserves between 2004 -2018. As a field medic in a Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Phil supported counter drug and anti-terrorism operations on the US/Mexico border and served as a combat medic in Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Phil currently lives in Richmond with his wife and two daughters. In his free time he enjoys writing, reading, and playing music. Phil holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s of Business Administration.

Topic: “Hey Cupcake - We are all leaders”(submitted for 1 credit hour) 

Overview:

Leaders aren't always who you think they are. Eventually, most of us will be called on to lead someone, whether it’s a department, a shift, a project team or a new employee.

Participants will learn:
How to GET OVER IT and help your employees get over it, too. How to keep your team from descending into the deep, dark Valley of Despair. How to deal with problem employees and button pushers
Hey Cupcake! is a wake-up call for leaders to move beyond what holds them back and get on with making work better. Leadership doesn't have to be daunting. In fact, when you stop being afraid to laugh at yourself, it can be downright fun.

Learning Objectives:

1) Move past the aggravating things that happen at work

2) Be able to guide team’s way of looking at bad things

3) Recognize when you aren’t letting go

Speaker Bio:

Robin Moore is the Sr. Consultant for Organizational Development with Centra in Lynchburg, VA, where she has been employed since 2002.  She has been a certified Vital Smarts trainer for Crucial Conversations and Crucial Accountability since 2011.  She is also a SHRM Certified Professional and a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI^®) Certified Practitioner.  Robin graduated from LU, with a degree in Journalism, and most recently with a master’s from Liberty University in Executive Leadership.

Robin provides leadership and staff development training at Centra, and she is frequently invited to speak on communication styles, stress management, performance management, and employee engagement.  She spends her free time with her husband, Chris, and their son, Tucker, who is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College.
